Pandora sheds the weight of the operating system.

A custom Yocto-based Linux cuts baseline system resource usage by up to 75 per cent on Jetson Orin NX — reclaiming memory and compute for generative AI workloads at the edge.

Pandora sheds the weight of the operating system.

Every megabyte the operating system consumes is a megabyte a diffusion model cannot use. At COMPUTEX, YUAN is showing its Pandora Developer Hub with a highly optimised Yocto-based Linux environment, built to unlock the full edge AI and generative AI capability of the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX platform.

The problem is familiar to anyone who has run generative workloads on embedded hardware. Diffusion inference, image-text generation, and automated content creation are hungry for memory and compute, yet conventional desktop Linux distributions carry background services and graphical components the workload never asked for. Pandora replaces that general-purpose stack with a lightweight, fully customised Yocto-based distribution — a minimal-footprint environment purpose-built for the job.

The numbers are stark. Internal benchmarks show the optimised Yocto system reduces baseline system resource usage by up to 75 per cent, handing memory and compute back from the OS to AI inference and generation — faster high-resolution content generation, low latency, and data privacy that stays on the device.

What the diet buys

Maximised compute efficiency: with non-essential services and processes eliminated, CPU scheduling and wake-up overhead falls, and the Orin NX's GPU Tensor Cores stay focused on text, image, and graphics generation. Minimised footprint: the Yocto-optimised system image is up to 98 per cent smaller than standard Ubuntu-based distributions, leaving maximum storage for model weights, datasets, and generated content. Hardened security: a streamlined software stack and custom kernel configuration shrink the attack surface — a meaningful improvement for commercial edge deployments and digital asset protection.
